All of us need Jesus, and here’s why. Whether we are “not bad” or consider ourselves “good people” for example, we do not steal or kill and neither do we break the law, and we are truly very polite and respectful to others, these good things are not what secure our eternity in heaven. Because we are spirit beings, it is important to know that though our physical bodies might die (due to sickness or old age etc), our spirits live on. And so it is important to live our lives with view of eternity (the after life).
God is holy and He will not dwell in sin. All of us, however good we might be, have sinned at some point and will definitely sin again in the future (Romans 3:23, Isaiah 59:2). God knows this and that is why He provided a way for our sins to be forgiven, wiped away and remembered no more, so that He can dwell with us whilst here on earth and for eternity in heaven. Jesus Christ is this way that God provided for our sins to be washed away. (John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.). When we believe in Jesus as the Son of God and accept Him in our hearts as Lord, asking Him to forgive us for all our sins, He does just that! We are saved, our sins are forgiven and we are reconciled with a holy God. No more are you just “good” or “not a bad person”, instead, you are made into a new creation with a righteous standing before God (2 Corinthians 5:17).
